This article has links to products and services we love, which we may make commission from.

After our first trip to Cyprus we’re besotted and would definitely return, which is testimony to how lovley this island is as we rarely visit places twice! What about you?

Reasons to Plan a Trip to Cyprus

The Weather

Starting off with an obvious factor, uninterrupted sunshine from spring through to summer is a huge appeal for those from countries with less fortunate climates.

In summer, temperatures range from 20°C to 30°C.

We enjoyed seven days of heat and blue skies even at the tail-end of the season.

The Beaches

When I say the beaches, I actually mean the clear turquoise waters that hug the sandy shores.

Whether you are a fan of sand or not, it is well worth planning trips to Cyprus’s beaches, such as Turtle Beach, which has sun loungers, toilets, a restaurant, and watersports equipment for rent.

The Protaras area has a dedicated walking path that leads between beaches.

The Food

Salads, cheese, meat, and fresh fish; what’s not to love?!

Ideal for light meals in the breeze.

The local tipple is Brandy Sour, which we didn’t try, and the beer is – a light lager called KEO.

The History

While Cyprus might be more known for its Ayia Napa bars and resort weddings, the island has an interesting and recent history that is still visible at Famagusta.

The so-called Ghost Town, which was once “the” place to holiday with stars Elizabeth Taylor and Raquel Welch spending time there, was taken over by Turkey in the 1970s

Locals were given X hours to gather their life and leave.

Today, visitors can cross the border (take your passport) by tour or local taxi services.

On the other side, you can hire an e-scooter or cart to see the buildings stuck in time.

People still use the beach, and there are a couple of cafes on it.

Cats

Every visitor will question another part of the culture: why so many cats?

It is said that there are possibly more cats than residents in Cyprus, so it is very likely that you will come across a friendly feline on the street or at your resort.

Stories passed down from historic states suggest that Helen of Constantinople sent cats to the island in 400 AD to control venomous snakes.
