Florida is best known for its palm trees, ‘gators and of course the playground on steroids, Orlando. A record 68 million people holidayed in ‘the city beautiful’ and sure the masses flock to see Mickey and the Walt Disney World parade but there is more than meets the mouses’ eye to this hot, vibrant holiday destination and most of the fun is found around idrive. Here are 5 fun things to do on International Drive, Orlando for all of the family.

Things to do at International Drive, Orlando

Orlando is cheesy, there is no getting away from that but if you are the type of traveller who wants to let their hair down while soaring to high heights the energetic International Drive is for you. Holidays in Orlando can be consumed with visits to the parks including Walt Disney and Universal (some holiday inspiration here) but time should be set aside for some I-Drive action.

1. iFly

Don’t want to parachute but would like to fly to high heights?

Then iFly (see what they did there?) is so you.

The iFly team equips you with a fetching jumpsuit, goggles, and hat then take you to their wind tunnel. The guide then supports you until you are flying without wings.

There is no parachute and no need to jump out of a plane but you still feel the flight experience, and it is a thrill for adventure lovers!

2. Outer Limitz Indoor Trampoline Arena

If getting high is your thing check out iDrive’s indoor trampolines for small kids and the bigger ones too.

Outer Limitz Orlando trampolines cover 24,000 square feet of ground and walls! When the kids are bouncing off the walls you can literally make them bounce off the walls, safely.

3. Ripley’s Believe It Or Not

You cannot miss the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not building sucked into a sinkhole on I-Drive!

This self-guided museum displays all things strange over the 16 galleries, including shrunken heads. This is one of the top things to do indoors on International Drive.

Tip: expect to spend around 1-1.5 hours in this Odditorium.

4. I-RIDE Trolley

Personally, I found iDrive easy enough to conquer by foot but we did visit in one of the cooler months (January) and without kids in tow.

I-RIDE trolley offers a hop on/off service from morning until night making it easy for holiday-makers to pick and choose their fun I-Drive itinerary.

Warning: I-RIDE trolley does not go to Walt Disney. Ensure your hotel offers a drop-off/pick up service.

5. Happy Hour in Orlando

A two-week holiday in Florida can get pricey but you can keep the costs down by looking out for restaurant happy hours.

For example, Miller’s Ale House offers cocktails for $2 to help the purse pinchers out.

  1. Love your comments . I started following you before our trip to Edinburgh this summer, & enjoyed your suggestions for our time there.
Orlando is our home & you’ve offered some good ideas. Sea world is another park that offers great entertainment, & for those not used to gators in their lakes ( as we are), a trip to Gatorland will really fill your Gator dream….or nightmares.. The Atlantic Ocean is only an hour away for a day at the beach ,always a fun memory for a Florida vacation.
We loved Scotland, and are happy you enjoyed Orlando. We long to return to Scotland, & hope you will return to Florida.

Aw thanks Julianne! I very much doubt that our Florida trip is over in this lifetime and I will definitely be hitting the road to see what more is on offer, especially on the coast. How did you find the weather in Scotland?
