Pete and Micayla (our America friends) called us an ‘uber‘ taxi through an app to get us to the Spin Party at Stubbs for day three at SXSW 2015. Today was Will Butler (from Arcade Fire) day. This is the only act we really wanted to see, he was immense!
On arrival at Stubbs we given free breakfast tacos (soft bread wrap with egg and potato filling) and we drank free Steel beer. ‘Free’ my favourite word. Although you could argue it isn’t really free as you pay in time – queuing for the laminate, which allows entry (unless the venue reaches capacity then no chance) and queuing to get in (neither queue like Charles Bradley on day one!)
Stubbs is a cool venue. It has two stages; it’s outdoors and has lots of bars surrounding the stages. Bands alternate the stages (to make setting up easier?) Kate Boy was a new find, kind of Little Dragon-esque.
Unfortunately, as soon as Will Butler took to the stage, the heavens opened and the outdoor setting was less desirable! Will crawled all over the set, lying on speakers like every great showman should. His attractive band wore black jumpers with their names on it, nice touch.
The day ended early (I was asleep by 10pm) with another discovery- Daniel Wilson. That kid has talent, such a bashful man too (we creepily passed on our thanks at the end of the show).
