To kick off day one of SXSW 2015, we took a splendid walk from the HI hostel at the riverside to 6th Street with Pete, our American friend from Miami (this took just short of an hour). We met Pete back in 2013 during our month in South East Asia. He reminded us that we hatched this plan to go to SXSW music festival whilst hiking in Sapa Valley. How romantic! Here is our run down of our day one at SXSW 2015.
You need ID. We forgot ours. This meant we had to trek back to the HI Hostel (30 mins at least) in the heat to pick it up. Pete wanted to try and get into the Pitchfork party so I joined Craig on the hike home. Once we had retrieved our ID, we caught the bus back into town (number 100; 7 or 20) which dropped us off at Congress Avenue District where we marched to meet Pete who was now in the queue to see Delta Spirit and then Charles Bradley at The Container Bar. Three hours later for Pete (seriously) and one and a bit for us we were tagged in. We had to show our RSVP (thanks RSVPster for booking us up – $40 for those wanting to do SXSW for ‘free’) and then we were free to drink as much beer from Lagunitas as physically possible whilst listening to the smooth Charles Bradley.
I managed to get into VIP TWICE to take photos- everyone is so relaxed and friendly here.
We also met nice people in the queue – it really wasn’t a downer being squashed between the sounds of the bands at The Container Bar and Stubbs!
Post Charles, we ate at the food trucks in Rainey Street area then wandered on to 6th Street – a different place a night. People were spilling into the street, Craig saw a boy show off his ‘piece’ – I’m sure that’s rare!
I was ready for bed, Craig and I marched home (twenty five mins this time) and left Pete who ended up paying $40 cover fee go see TV On The Radio- sweet deal I’d say. Day one at SXSW 2015 over, ready for day two!
